We paddled the Lower Madawaska River from the wetlands around Aumond’s Bay to the take-out at Griffin.
Through the trip down the river it became more picturesque. There were plenty of rapids and wildlife to maintain interest.
We paddled through the rapids with some interesting names; Snake, Dog Leg, Shallow, The Narrows, Exam Time, Rifle Chute, Split Rock, Raquette, Slate Rock, Crooked, Wadsworth, Stoney Swift and Highland Falls.
The river is heavily wooded at the start but flattens out down stream where farmland becomes more dominant.
Fortunately we have left the upper and middle sections for a return trip sometime in the future…………..
